Government To Settle NIA Arrears By August
National Identification Authority has assured staff that arrears owed from January to June will be settled in July 2025. This follows the resumption of services after an indefinite strike by staff over delays in the payment of their Operational Support Allowance. Speaking to the media, the Head of Media Relations at the NIA, Dorah Badu Acheampong, affirmed that in addition to the July timeline, all arrears will be cleared by August.
The arrears from January to June will be paid in July. But as was in the statement, in July and August the staff should expect the arrears to be paid, she said. Services at the National Identification Authority on June 30 resumed after several days of disruption caused by an indefinite strike by staff over the delayed payment of their Operational Support Allowance. The resumption of work follows engagements with key stakeholders, including the National Labour Commission and the Ministry of Finance, aimed at resolving the impasse.
The NLC, in a directive issued on Friday, June 27, ordered the striking staff to return to work, describing the action as unlawful. According to the Commission, divisional unions do not have the mandate to declare a strike, and therefore, the walkout lacked legal backing. In compliance with the directive, staff at the NIA have since returned to their posts, allowing operations to return to normal across the authority’s service centres.
