Lands Commission To Embark On Exercise To Reclaim Gov’t Lands At East Legon
Lands Commission is urging residents in Mempeaseam close to East Legon, to regularize their documents as it also embarks on an exercise to claim all undeveloped government lands in the area. The commission says the call has become very necessary as it is making efforts to reclaim encroached government lands in the area. It was
revealed that the site in question is State Land acquired compulsorily also by the Government under Executive Instrument (E.L 72) of 1974 measuring approximately 225 acres for Accra Training College at Mempeasem in Accra. However, the Government released a portion of the land to the pre-acquisition owners and retained about
111 acres of the land, therefore revoking the earlier Executive Instrument. But following continuing encroachments on the land, the Lands Commission has engaged the services of Messrs Aynok Holdings Limited to recover all the encroached lands and provide protection of the site.Speaking to media, Director of the
Messrs Aynok Holdings Limited, Clement Dzato stated that no building will also be pulled down in the process. Anybody with land here is advised to go to the Lands Commission to regularize it. I want to state emphatically that, no one is touching any completed building here. But if we see skirmishes of foundation and what have you,
we are pulling everything down. Fence walls around undeveloped lands will also be pulled down. So I will advise the public who have lands here not to resist this because people have hired land guards to prevent this. They should avoid this so that we can live in peace.
