Police gun down 3 in a demonstration at Swedru over bad roads
Three persons are reportedly gunned down around mid-morning Monday by the police with others severely injured in a demonstration at Agona Swedru over bad roads.
The persons gunned down, according to eyewitness accounts are believed to have been hit by stray bullets as a result of the firing of warning shots by the police when confusion ensued between the angry residents and the peace officers.
The angry demonstrators’ mainly made up of residents and drivers blocked all access roads to the town making it difficult for pedestrians to either gain entry or leave the community.
The roadblock has left many travelers stranded in their cars for hours hence causing huge traffic in and outskirts of the town.
Several attempt by police officers to negotiate with the youth to convince them to remove the road blockade proved futile thereby compelling the law enforcement officers to resort to the firing of warning shots to disperse the demonstrators.
“We are not fighting, the police are infringing on our rights, as I am speaking to you now, three persons have been gunned down with others severally injured.
The angry residents want the government to fix the abandoned roads without delay.
The protestors are expected to present a petition to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
