Electrochem Ghana Workers Protest Over Unfair Terminations

Some workers of Electrochem Ghana Limited in Ada have staged a protest over what they describe as the unfair termination of their contracts. The aggrieved workers say their contracts were ended without proper notice or adherence to due process and they are demanding explanations from the company’s management. One of the affected workers, who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity, alleged:

They terminated our contracts without any notice, which is not the right procedure. We are calling on management to come out and tell us why our contracts were terminated. They need to give us answers. Electrochem Ghana Limited, a fully Ghanaian-owned company established in 2017, operates in the salt and chemical industries.

The company holds a 41,000-acre concession at Ada Songor, with a target of producing one million metric tons of salt annually for both domestic consumption and export. In the medium term, Electrochem has outlined plans to expand production and supply raw materials for a chlor-alkali plant to produce caustic soda and other related chemicals.
