Ghana Gas Board Meets Karpowership To Deepen Operational Ties

Governing Board of the Ghana National Gas Company has met with the management of the Karpowership as part of a one-day working visit to the Western Region aimed at strengthening operational collaboration and assessing ongoing service delivery. Led by Board Chairman Hon. Kofi Totobi Quakyi, the visit forms part of the board’s broader familiarisation tour since its assumption of office.
The delegation, which included key management members, began its engagement with staff of the Takoradi office, where discussions focused on policy resets and aligning the company’s workforce with strategic goals. In a show of regional solidarity, the board also paid a courtesy call on Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, at his palace in Essikadu. The visit served as a platform to deliberate on development concerns affecting the region, especially issues tied to energy infrastructure and social impact.
A significant portion of the visit was dedicated to inspecting operational sites within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. At the Takoradi Distribution Station (TDS), workers raised concerns about logistical and welfare challenges they experienced under the previous administration, calling for renewed attention to staff well-being and equipment support.
The day’s activities climaxed with a high-level engagement between Ghana Gas officials and the management team of the Karpowership. Ghana Gas currently supplies between 80 and 90 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to the 470-megawatt power station, which contributes approximately 12% of electricity to Ghana’s national grid. In a statement issued on Friday, July 18, Management of the power ship commended Ghana Gas for its reliability and swift response in fuel delivery.
The Ghana Gas CEO, Ms. Judith Adjobah Blay, expressed satisfaction with the partnership and assured stakeholders of consistent performance to ensure a stable power supply for the country. Board Chairman Hon. Totobi Quakyi assured both internal stakeholders and external partners of the board’s commitment to restructuring Ghana Gas for operational efficiency. He emphasised the importance of focusing on the company’s core mandate while enhancing the welfare of both technical and non-technical staff.
