Ghana Police Service Promotes Two Officers For Bravery

The Ghana Police Service has promoted two officers for their bravery during a daring rescue and arrest operation in Greater Accra and the Eastern Region. Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka and Constable Joseph Akondoh, both stationed at the Anyaa District Police Command, played a critical role in saving two robbery victims and capturing seven suspects connected to a fuel tanker hijacking.
The operation unfolded on August 7 around 12:30 am during a routine snap check at Ablekuma Borkorborkor. The officers, assisted by four Community Police Assistants, stopped a green pickup truck. To their surprise, two men leapt from the back and pleaded for help, revealing they had been attacked the night before near Nsawam.
They had been transporting a 5,400-litre fuel tanker when robbers struck. Acting swiftly, the officers rescued the victims and arrested one suspect on the spot. Intelligence efforts led to the arrest of six more suspects in the Eastern Region, and the stolen tanker was recovered along with other items. In recognition of their outstanding efforts, the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, promoted Chief Inspector Kotoka and Constable Akondoh during a ceremony at the Police Headquarters on August 8.
Kotoka has been recommended for training at the Police Academy, while Akondoh now holds the rank of Lance Corporal. These officers showed true dedication to protecting lives and property, said IGP Yohuno. Their actions remind us of the core values of our service. The Police Administration continues to support and reward officers who go above and beyond in the line of duty.
