NPP delegate who doubles as a government appointee of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region, Mr. Paul Amaliba Azika has died. He passed on following an election shock he suffered during the party’s internal election in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency. Mr. Azika, a teacher of Tongo-Beo Junior High School in

 

the Talensi District and a government appointee in the Bolga Municipal Assembly on Thursday, April 28, 2022, collapsed when Awudu Asonga, a constituency chairman aspirant he fiercely supported lost Bolga constituency chairmanship election. Mr. Amaliba Azika collapsed at the election centre at the GNAT hall at Bolgatanga during

 

 

the counting of ballots after realising that his candidate wouldn’t win the position. Paul Azika was immediately rushed to the Upper East Regional hospital and was later pronounced dead. The remains of late Paul Azika have been deposited at the morgue of the Upper East Regional hospital for preservation. According to party sources, the

 

 

remains of the late Paul Azika will be preserved for two weeks, awaiting the arrival of some family members for his burial. The deceased left behind two children. The demise of Mr. Azika has compelled the Bolga Municipal Assembly to also postpone the election of a presiding member scheduled for Friday, April 29, 2022, to a later

 

 

date. At the end of the elections, Kwame Anaba polled 355 votes to beat Awudu Asonga who polled 353 votes, thus becoming the NPP’s Bolga Central Constituency Chairman-elect. The immediate past constituency chairman Amaliba Alhassan also polled 77 votes.
