Six People Arrested By Blue Water Guard For Illegal Mining At Juaboso

Blue Water Guard, working with the police, has arrested six individuals suspected of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, in the Juaboso District of Ghana’s Western North Region. The arrests were made during a focused operation targeting mining activities along the Bia River. During the raid, the task force destroyed 14 changfang machines and other equipment that were set up directly in the river.

These machines pose serious threats to aquatic life and the quality of the water, which many local communities rely on. One pumping machine was confiscated at Abron, where the six suspects were caught in the act of mining. The arrested individuals have been handed over to the police for processing and further investigation. Authorities have assured the public that anyone found guilty will face prosecution under the law.

Residents have welcomed the operation, expressing deep concern over the rapid destruction of the Bia River and urging for consistent enforcement to prevent illegal miners from returning. The Blue Water Guard has committed to maintaining intensified surveillance in the region to ensure the mining menace is eliminated. The seized equipment is currently being held at the Juaboso District Police Command while the suspects assist investigators.

One official from the taskforce said, Protecting our water bodies is vital for the community’s health and future. We will continue to work hard until illegal mining is eradicated from this area. This operation marks a significant step in preserving the Bia River and safeguarding the livelihoods of the people in Juaboso.
