2 Fined Over Illegal Firearms
The Asamankese Circuit Court in the Eastern Region has fined two persons in the sum of GH¢3,600 at the Akyem Kwamang for the possession of firearms without lawful authority. The accused persons, Jonas Opare, 40 years, and Samuel Obeng, 49 years were convicted by the court to pay the amount or to serve two years imprisonment.
According to the Prosecution, Samuel Obeng was fined another GH¢3,600 cedis for transferring the firearms to his friend but his sentence will also run concurrently. The prosecution said on 03/12/2021 at about 3pm, there was a shooting incident in the Akyem Abenaso Forest by a 16 year old son of Jonas Opare which then led to the death of one Paa Kwasi Goglomi also aged 22 years. Investigation revealed that Samuel Obeng was the owner of the unregistered simplex single barrel gun with serial number 47538 without authority, transferred to Jonas Opare who left the gun in his house and his son took it for hunting in Akyem Abenaso Forest where mistakenly shot human being. After the Police investigations, the two were all paraded before the court for prosecution.
