Coronavirus: Evacuate Ghanaian students in China – Ablakwa
The Minority has issued a three-day ultimatum to the Government to immediately evacuate Ghanaian students caught in the centre of China’s Coronavirus scourge.
According to the Minority, France, Switzerland, The Philippines, Russia, Libya among other countries, have evacuated their nationals from China as a result of the deadly virus whose death toll has surpassed SARS.
The USA, the Minority noted, is even doing a second round of evacuation of its nationals, and urged the Government to swiftly move in to save the Ghanaian students before anything bad befalls them.
Addressing the media in Parliament today, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 the Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and NDC MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said Ghana has the capacity to evacuate the Ghanaian students from China, especially, those trapped in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak of the CoronaVirus outbreak.
In an earlier post on Facebook, Mr Ablakwa said “May it never be said of us that we have become the country renowned for waging expensive campaigns to attract largely rich and famous Africans in the diaspora through the ‘Year of Return’ and ‘Beyond the Return’ initiatives and yet cannot spend a fraction of that to evacuate our stranded compatriots in China.”
He added that “Ghanaians in China also deserve to return. Evacuate them now!”
So far, some 1,016 people have been confirmed dead with 43,000 people infected.
