EC To Announce Winner Of Presidential Election At 5pm Today
The Electoral Commission EC has announced it will declare the 2020 presidential election results at 5 pm today. The declaration will be done at the AICC. The Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensah serves as the returning officer for the presidential polls. The announcement will come 24 hours after the close of
polls on December 7 as promised by the commission. The National Democratic Congress, in particular, was sceptical of the EC’s 24 hour target. The Commission said it had introduced more efficient measures which will facilitate the declaration of election results within 24 hours. It however did not outline the new measures
it considered efficient. The only significant hold ups in the voting process were in the Bantama and Tamale North constituencies in the Ashanti and Northern regions respectively. The EC allowed for voting to be extended beyond 5 pm in these two areas. In the 2016 election, results were declared two days after the close of polls.
