Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has directed that the final teacher licensure examination be concluded no later than August 30, 2025. He urged all stakeholders to collaborate with the registrar to set a firm date and ensure the process is completed within the stipulated timeframe. Addressing the media, Mr. Iddrisu acknowledged ongoing concerns surrounding the licensure exams. “If there is a last opportunity for those who sat and couldn’t make it, that process should not travel beyond 30th August,” he said.

The Minister commended the chairman and members of the committee tasked with reviewing the teacher licensure framework, applauding their far-reaching recommendations aimed at adopting a more comprehensive and practical approach to assessing teacher readiness. He added that the updated model includes supervised practicum evaluations and structured mentorship programmes, ensuring newly trained teachers demonstrate not only theoretical knowledge but real classroom competence.

Mr. Iddrisu noted that the new model would be implemented as soon as possible following the final licensure opportunity for candidates who need to resit or join the exam. According to him, the proposed reforms aim to improve the quality of education by ensuring certified teachers possess the necessary practical skills alongside academic knowledge before entering the classroom.
