Grave Looters Exhume Body Of 15 Year Old Boy At Assin Akropong

Residents of Assin Akropong in the Assin Fosu area of the Central Region woke up on Wednesday to discover that grave looters had exhumed the remains of a 15-year-old boy, Kenneth Ampofo five days after he had been buried. The residents found that the abdomen had been opened with the intestines and organs removed. Kenneth died after a brief illness and was laid to rest in the community last Friday.
According to the assembly member for Assin Akropong, Bismark Kojo Boateng, the looters after exhuming the body slit the deceased's abdomen and removed his intestines and organs. He said the body was discovered by residents after they suspected a strange vehicle had been parked at the entrance of the cemetery for hours, but the driver sped off in a suspicious manner when they tried to approach it. He said a casual look at the body indicated the perpetrators were in search of body parts.
Mr Boateng stated that the community plans to establish a volunteer patrol group immediatley to enhance night security in the community. He said local authorities, including traditional leaders and police, have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Mr Boateng urged community members to remain calm and report any suspicious activities that might aid in the investigation.
The traditional leaders in a response on Wednesday performed rituals, seeking the help of the gods to smoke out the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the Assin Fosu District Police Commander Assistant Superintendent of Police, Jacob Kumedzro has confirmed the incident and said an official investigation has been initiated. He encouraged the residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure the perpetrators were brought to justice.
