Police Deployed To Black Star Square In Anticipation Of #FixTheCountry Protest

 

 

Scores of armed police officers from the Formed Police Unit and the Riot Control Units from both of the Accra Regional and the National offices have converged on the Black Star Square. A Police source on the grounds confirmed to the media that they were deployed in the anticipation of #FixTheCountry protestors. However, the

 

Black Star Square hasn't seen any activity also from the protestors. A demonstration was planned for today but the conveners of the #FixTheCountry campaign had to change plans after the Ghana Police Service secured an injunction against it and the court that granted the police’s request ruled that the planned protest wouldn't

 

 

be able to come off until the restriction on the public gatherings is lifted. The movement also started the last weekend and has been mainly online, with thousands of the Ghanaians voicing their frustrations with the Akufo Addo government. Instead of the protestors gathering, the conveners urged sympathisers to wear black attire

 

 

today. In addition, on each hour between 1 pm and 4 pm they urged drivers to blow on their horns for minute. In the same period, they asked Ghanaians at home, in all their communities to bang on their utensils for minute. The conveners also said sympathisers could choose to stand alone anywhere and including at vantage points

 

 

in your community holding placards or signs with the hashtags. All the conveners of the protest still hope to have a gathering of protestors at the Black Star Square and they have moved to challenge the injunction at the Supreme Court. The hearing challenging the injunction has been scheduled for June 8, 2021. But conveners now want to file an application to bring forward the hearing.
