REGSEC Declares Disputed Adjiringanor, Borteyman Land Security Zone
The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has declared the Borteyman enclave located within the Ayawaso West Wuogon Municipality as a security zone with immediate effect. The announcement of the declaration was contained in a statement signed by the Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, and released Thursday evening.
The declaration, according to the statement, is due to the fact that: “REGSEC has picked up intelligence on the likelihood of imminent clashes between two feuding factions in [the] Borteyman enclave, particularly, Top Kings Limited and Empire Builders. “The entire area under dispute has [therefore] been declared a security zone.
Effective today, Thursday, 16th February, 2023, REGSEC has taken over security of the area.” The Regional Minister also directed that “all landguard activities should cease henceforth” as “REGSEC would deploy security personnel to the area to ensure peace and calm.” Explaining the reasons for the decisions, the Regional Minister, in the statement said;
“These decisions have been taken considering the fact that the situation has become a recipe for disaster and a cause for security concern in the region” and went on to iterate that the move was in no way an attempt to challenge or interpret the decisions of the courts on the issue; nor to determine the actual owners of the land.
However, “we are doing this to ensure there is no breach of the peace in the entire area in dispute and the region as a whole.” He therefore appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to inflame passions that might undermine the security of the area.
