Rotational Nurses And Midwives Lament Over Delayed Salary Payments
Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association RNMA is demanding the payment of salaries of its members. According to RNMA, the government still owes its members, salary arrears of eight months. It also said the COVID-19 pandemic is taking a toll on the nurses and midwives financially. Speaking to the media, the
President of the association, Jerry Mertins Aziamadia was unhappy that colleagues, who are degree and diploma holders always have to complain and hold a series of protests before their salaries are paid. “Before rotational nurses are paid in Ghana, it means we have to go to the streets, do a series of demonstrations, bring in
press conferences before we are finally paid and I don’t know the crime nurses have committed by rendering their services to the nation as service personnel.” “We are emphatic on this matter - we want the Ministry of Health and the government to come to our aid and pay our allowances as early as possible. We also want to be
paid according to the planned structure policy. If we don’t see these payments, we will advise ourselves,” he stressed. Mr Aziamadia spoke to the media on the sidelines of an event dubbed “The Impact of COVID-19 on Universal Health Coverage: The Role of the Nurse, Midwife, Major Stakeholders and Government”. Mr. Aziamadia urged government to put in place adequate measures to have their salaries and allowances paid on time to forestall such delays.
