Swedru Youth Demonstrate Again To Demand Continuation Of Mahama Roads
The much talked about demonstration by the concerned youths of Agona Swedru came to a successful end amidst drumming, singing and dancing to further demand the asphalting of Agona Swedru roads which were commenced by the erstwhile NDC administration.
This was after a similar demo by Driver’s on Monday, 4th November 2019 which nearly turned violent with 31 of the drivers arrested, prosecuted and remanded but currently given bail to reappear in court.
Clad in red and black attires signifying their anger and frustration towards the neglect of the town; the demonstrators who were in their thousands held placards with interesting and thought-provoking inscriptions to put across their message for the authorities to fix their roads or incur their wrath with other lawful mass actions including but not limited to demonstrations until their roads are fixed because they are taxpayers and Ghanaians too with a municipal assembly status for that matter.
Leaders of the group took time to educate the crowd on the reasons for their actions and charged all not to engage in any unlawful actions to mar the exercise since they are responsible and law-abiding citizens whose only interest is the development of the neglected town.
Finally, the leaders expressed disappointment in their MP, Hon Cynthia Mamle Morrison for not showing up as promised and further disappointed in the MCE, Mrs Marigold Assan for also failing to receive their petition to be forwarded to President Akufo Addo at the flagstaff house for the necessary actions since both the MCE and MP have completely failed in addressing their concerns.
The crowd was dispersed after the presentation of the petition with admonishing to all not to engage in any destructive actions but with the assurance that more actions and pressures will be brought to bear unless the roads finally see the asphalting which was halted 3years ago continued.
