Taxi Driver Arrested For Possessing Suspected Cannabis

Ghana Police Service has arrested a taxi driver in the Greater Accra Region after discovering large quantities of suspected cannabis hidden in fertiliser sacks. The suspect, identified as Ernest Mohammed Adjiri, was apprehended on Monday, 2 June, during a special intelligence-led operation carried out by the National Highway Patrol Unit. Adjiri was driving a Hyundai i10 taxi with registration number GW 9832-22 when officers intercepted the vehicle as part of the operation.
Upon searching the taxi, the police uncovered three fertiliser sacks loaded with 120 slabs of compressed dried leaves believed to be cannabis. In a statement, the police disclosed that the suspect admitted ownership of the substances during initial interrogation. He is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days. The police say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking across the country’s highways and major transport routes.
