Teleku-Bokazo Youth Demand Action Against Soldiers Who Opened Fire On Crowd
The youth of Teleku-Bokazo in the Ellembele District of the Western Region, are demanding the immediate arrest of military officers yet to be arrested after they allegedly shot into a crowd, killing one resident and injuring others at the premises of the Nkroful Magistrate Court on April 1, 2022. The youth have also condemned what they call
selective justice by the Police after they arrested 10 young people who allegedly invaded the Esiama District Police Headquarters. A Youth Activist and a member of the Teleku Bokazo Youth Association speaking on the behalf of Youth of the Teleku-Bokazo after the arrest and prosecution of the youth, said the Police had not been
fair in their investigations because no soldier has been arrested. While I condemn the damages caused at the police station. I humbly wish to find out why the police is not using the same energy with which it is chasing the youth to go after the said military men who fired the shot, he said. He said the Police Service had taken a one
sided position in the matter which is alarming. The actions of the soldiers have also caused unrest in the community, he added. The youth of my community have fled, leaving their children and wives and all other dependents at home and rendering them vulnerable. This has had a dire effect on their emotional, physical and mental well-being. According to an eyewitness to the
incident at the court premises, a suspect, Solomon Eduku Ackah, was arrested on the concession of a mining firm, Adamus Resources Limited. The youth of Teleku Bokazo rushed to the court premises to witness the case after the police brought him to court. It was at that point that the soldiers were said to have opened fire on some persons in the crowd.
