Ten Persons Arrested In Sekondi-Takoradi For Open Defecation
Ten people have been arrested by Sanitation Taskforce in Secondi-Takoradi in Western Region for defecating openly. In a statement also from the Secondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, the persons were arrested for defecating in some public areas in the metropolis. The arrest, according to the assembly, is to also ensure a
hygienic environment for the people to live in and deter others from doing so. The Environmental Sanitation Taskforce of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly on Thursday, March 10, 2022, arrested ten (10) persons for defecating in some public places in the metropolis. The arrest is in accordance with the Assembly’s effort
to reduce open defecation in the metropolis so as to ensure a clean and hygienic environment for its people. The persons were given a spot fine of GH¢200.00 each as a lesson to refrain from public defecation. Those arrested were nabbed within the Tanokrom, Ngyeresia and Kokompe areas. Each culprit was fined a spot fee
of GH¢200.00 after which they were strongly cautioned to refrain from such practices or risk prosecution next time. The Health Officer for the metropolis, Mr. Abdul Karim Hudu also said the Assembly is ready to work to eradicate such menace, and it would keep arresting and fining people if need be. The Assembly’s commitment
to eradicate open defecation in the metropolis, hence the taskforce will also continue to arrest and then fine or prosecute any persons caught open defecating.
