Weija Gbawe: Municipal Assembly To Begin Bridge Construction On Densu River
The Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly, has begun the construction of a fifty meter long bridge on the Densu River to link Old Weija to New Weija. Residents and the school children at Old Weija usually struggle to cross to New Weija whenever the dam is spilled, with some even resorting to the use of canoes to cross to the other end.
The construction of the bridge, according to assembly, will ease the traffic situation on the Mallam Junction to Weija Junction road. The Municipal Chief Executive for Weija Gbawe, Patrick Kumor, is optimistic the project will be completed in six months. I believe getting this project completed will also open the economic activity
within this enclave. On my right side is where we have the Weija spillway, and you can just imagine that any time it’s being spilled, your daughter or son will have to use a canoe to cross. This is Greater Accra, we cannot afford to put our kids in danger. We are very happy the government has listened to our plight, and today we are
having this bridge constructed. The duration is just six months, and after the six months, all the other linked roads that are supposed to be done will also be linked to it so that we can open up this enclave for all the two communities, i.e the Old Weija and the New Weija to now be put together by the construction of this bridge.
It is going to be a 50-meter-long bridge which will take two vehicles on each side. It’s something that we are very much appreciative of this government for and also the MP for supporting and contributing to getting this done. He also stated that the community members are happy about the latest development. As I keep saying,
development is a process, but not an event. We started pushing for this in the 2018 and today we are having the green light to get this bridge constructed and I believe the community around here is very happy because for the first time they can drive over the bridge to the other community and also to other areas in the municipality.
