2020: ‘To err is human’ – Deputy Finance Minister cries for forgiveness from Volta Region over budget mishap
Abena Osei-Asare

Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei Asare is pleading with the people of the Volta Region to forgive government for the omission of its name in the roads allocations read in the budget yesterday.

Employing a proverb, the deputy minister said “to err is human and to forgive is divine”.

She was speaking in an interview with Naa Dedei Tettey on Starr Today on StarrFM.

She pleaded with the Volta Region not to take into account the statement of the Volta caucus in parliament to the effect that government deliberately sidelined the Volta Region.

She said the omission was “a genuine error”.

“It was a genuine genuine genuine mistake…to err is human and to forgive is divine, we have a whole list of projects meant for the Volta region.

“I want to state that it was not deliberate but a mistake…we will rectify it and attach it as an addendum and send it to parliament.”

This after Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa and the MP for North Dayi Jocelyn Tetteh raised the issue of neglect of Volta Region in the roads allocation.

According to Joycelyn Tetteh, such biased treatment towards the people of the Volta region should be condemned as the constitution states that there must be an even and balanced development in every region.

She therefore wants government to put in place measures to correct the wrongs in the 2020 budget as soon as possible.

Okudzeto Ablakwa on the other hand asked “why is provision not made in the 2020 Budget for critical road projects in the case of only the Volta Region? How does the Akufo-Addo Administration expect, particularly, MPs from the Volta Region to explain this to our constituents?”
