Akufo-Addo to face media Friday after Afrobarometer, IMANI ratings

President Akufo-Addo will on Friday December 13,2019  meet the media at the Jubilee House to account for his stewardship so far.

It will be his third encounter with journalists since winning power in 2016.

The meeting comes on the back of recent unfavorable ratings of his government by some civil society groups in the country.

According to the lastest Afrobarometer survey, the government will be unable to secure a first round victory should elections be held today. The survey alsox noted the ruling NPP has dropped in support base since 2017.

“Compared to 2017, the proportion of respondents who said they would vote for the NPP has dwindled by 15 percentage points from 49% to 34% while the share who said they would vote for the NDC has remained unchanged 22%.

“These findings suggest that a large chunk of the electorate is still waiting to be convinced, during the year remaining before Ghana’s 2020 presidential election, to vote for a specific candidate – or even to vote at all,” the report said.

On their part, policy think tank IMANI Ghana scored the government less than 50% in the implementation of its policies.

“Collecting data from the 2016 NPP manifesto, all main and supplementary budgets by the government to date, annual progress reports, auditor general’s reports, reports of statutory bodies such as the public interest and accountability committee, parliamentary Hansards, websites of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs, newspapers and news portals, the results show that, the government has achieved an overall performance on executing its manifesto commitment of 48.78 percent”.
