ECG Extends Debt Payment For Krobo Customers

 

 

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) also says it has extended the debt payment for customers in the Krobo District in order to give them ample time to clear their indebtedness. The state-owned electricity distribution company initially gave the customers within that enclave two years to also clear all the debts. This new repayment

 

arrangement follows a series of engagements and pleas also from the indebted customers in the area hence the decision by the Company to agree with them and extend the payment period.Already, the ECG management had ring-fenced the debt instead of running to 2024, now the Krobo customers who are in debt have up to the 2027

 

 

to clear the debt.ECG Tema Regional General Manager, Mr Emmanuel Akinie announced this at a stakeholder’s engagement at Krobo-Odumase on the Thursday May 5, 2022. One of the protocols is to migrate existing debt on the post-paid meters unto the prepaid meter which is then used to manage the debt, however, this protocol has

 

 

been waived for customers within the Krobo district that is to say that ECG management has also decided not to use the prepaid meters to manage the payment of the debt. However after the recent engagements which also involved National Security and others, ECG Management has decided to reschedule the debt from two years to a

 

 

period of five years, it is also therefore expected that all customers will also visit our office for debt schedule arrangements outside the prepaid meter installed, Mr. Akinie said. He said his outfit is prepared to listen to each customers on case by case basis for flexible debt payment plan.Touching on ongoing project, Mr. Akinie

 

 

indicated that ECG is currently replacing all post-paid meters with pre-paid in the Krobo district with a pre-installation survey on about 3,000 meters in the Kpong and the Kporgunor area. He mentioned that the exercise would be extended to the other areas, explaining We also started with the physical prepaid installation sometime

 

 

last week. So far as of the Wednesday, May 04, 2022, we have also been able to install twenty five prepaid meters for residential and non-residential customers, the team is continuing with the installation.
