GSA Targets Unregulated Port Operators

Ghana Shippers Authority has announced a crackdown on unregulated service providers at the country’s ports, blaming their unchecked activities for rising business costs and declining competitiveness in regional trade. The Ceo of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, says the Authority is moving swiftly to bring order to Ghana’s maritime logistics chain, as high operational costs threaten to push businesses away from the country’s ports.
Speaking at the 11th anniversary celebration and website launch of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Prof. Gyampo stressed that no charge can be levied without our approval, as part of efforts to regain control over cost structures within the port system. The event, held at the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat in Accra, brought together stakeholders across the import-export sector, many of whom have long raised concerns over arbitrary fees and non-transparent operations by port service providers.
Prof. Gyampo said the GSA is setting up a dedicated task force to monitor compliance across the logistics and maritime value chain. The task force is expected to enforce regulatory standards and ensure that all actors operate within the legal framework. The current cost pressures are making Ghanaian businesses uncompetitive and discouraging the use of our ports, he warned.
