Increased Road Tolls Meant To Provide Good roads - Oppong

 

 

The Information Minister Oppong Nkrumah has said that government intends to refurbish all the roads in the country hence, the decision to increase the road tolls marginally in the 2021 budget statement. Some drivers union in the Ashanti Region have hinted at boycotting the road toll as as they demand a very comprehensive expenditure report on developmental projects road toll

The drivers who appeared to be aggrieved explained that almost all the highways on which tollbooths have been mounted across Ghana have defects and potholes, questioning the expenditure of road tolls levy collected over the years. Public Relations Officer for True Drivers Union Yaw Barima explained that our non-adherence to the

 

 

new toll rates if enacted is because we the drivers do not see what the numerous tolls have been used for because almost all roads leading to the tollbooths in Ghana are riddled with potholes and also other defects. Deliberating on the current 2021 Budget statement in Parliament Tuesday, March 16 Mr Oppong Nkrumah who is also the Ofoase Ayirebi lawmaker said “We all should rally behind the government, pass these revenue

 

 

measures and approve this budget, raise the resources that are required and most importantly ensure that the resources are put to the uses for which they have been advertised. For all of us MPs who demand road projects in our constituencies, if government decides to increase the road tolls marginally to raise more resources and ensure that the contractors are paid on time, so that our roads are done, it is something that will also benefit our constituencies and will benefit us as well.
