Kidnappers Of Policeman, Two Others In Benue Demand N1.7million Ransom
The gunmen who kidnapped a policeman and two civilians including a woman and a man on Tuesday along the Naka-Makurdi road in Benue State have demanded a N1.7million ransom. It was gathered that the kidnapped victims were ambushed and abducted at around 4pm at Ahume along the Naka-Makurdi Road by the kidnappers while they were returning from a burial ceremony. The kidnappers who have established contact with the families of the victims demanded the sum of N1.7million ransom before they could be freed.
The Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area, Andrew Ayande, who confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday, lamented that the area was notorious for criminality. He said, “A policeman and two others were kidnapped around Ahume at about 4pm, the vehicle the victims were riding in has been taken to Naka police station.” Ayande added that “The abductors were demanding N200,000 from the police family, N1million from the woman and they also demanded N500,000 from the other victim.” However, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, said she was yet to receive the report of the incident.
