Liberian President Weah Sacks Minister For Attending Opposition Rally

Liberia President George Weah has sacked the country’s telecommunications minister, Cooper Kruah. The sacking comes a few days after Kruah attended an opposition rally. Kruah reportedly attended a rally organised by the opposition Unity Party political last Friday where the party named its presidential running mate ahead of October's general elections.

Senior members of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) party were angered by Kruah’s action and subsequently demanded his sacking. In Kruah’s place, President Weah has nominated Worlea-Saywah Dunah, a veteran public servant. However, Dunah’s appointment will have to be approved by the Senate. President Weah will face strong challenges from the Unity Party's Joseph Boaka and Alexander Cummings of the Collaborating Political Parties.
