Manhunt Underway As Suspected Arson Leaves Over 200 People Homeless At Ahodwo
Residents believe the fire was deliberately set, pointing to a man alleged to be the husband of one of the occupants as the main suspect

Over 200 residents have been left homeless after a devastating fire tore through a densely populated wooden settlement at Ahodwo in the Ashanti Region capital, Kumasi. The blaze, which started around 11 p.m, Wednesday, quickly engulfed dozens of makeshift structures, leaving families with no chance to salvage their belongings. By the time emergency services arrived, most of the area had been reduced to ashes.
Residents believe the fire was deliberately set, pointing to a man alleged to be the husband of one of the occupants as the main suspect. They claim the man had previously issued threats and was known in the area for violent behaviour, including reportedly brandishing a firearm in public. Former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Presiding Member, Richard Boadi, widely known as Opoman confirmed community reports that the suspect had a history of intimidation and threats to cause harm.
The suspect is currently on the run, and a manhunt has been launched by local authorities to track him down. Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have visited the scene, assessed the damage, and are coordinating emergency relief for the displaced residents many of whom, including children, are now sleeping in the open. The incident has shocked the Ahodwo community, with calls growing for swift justice and urgent humanitarian support. Police say investigations are ongoing
