Muntaka Mubarak Wins Asawase Seat

Muntaka Mubarak Wins Asawase Seat

The National Democratic Congress incumbent Member of Parliament, Muntaka Mubarak has retained the Asawase seat. He won 13 of the 15 polling centres in the Asawase Constituency. It’s the largest vote I have ever had in any election I have ever contested, he said to press shortly after his victory was announced. His challenger was Alhaji Alidu Seidu of the New Patriotic

Party. The electoral process in Asawase has been marred by controversy since before polls opened. A week to the polls, he challenged the decision of the Electoral Commission EC to use the Palace of the Chief of Asokore Mampong as a collation centre for constituency results. He courted further controversy when polls opened after he was caught on camera using his six year old daughter’s thumbprint on his ballot paper.
