Nigeria: One Dead, Three Others Injured As Gunmen Open Fire On Police Patrol Team
Gunmen suspected to be cultists at the early hours of Monday killed a man at the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State. This was coming barely three days after some yet-to-be-identified gunmen also killed a policeman on Friday in the Ikorodu area of the State, according to the state police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin. Hundeyin added that investigations had commenced with a view to arresting the culprits. He claimed that as soon as they arrived on the scene, detectives discovered the man lying in a pool of his own blood with a knife hanging around his neck.
A spent shell and an Automated Machine Teller (ATM) card with the name Babatunde Adegoke were reportedly found at the scene, according to Hundeyin.He claimed that the body had been brought to the mainland morgue for an autopsy.Police spokesman in Lagos State, SP Benjamin Hundeyin added that three other police operatives were also seriously injured during the Friday attack.
Police officers from the Imota Police Division in the Ikorodu neighborhood were on patrol when they were attacked by the attackers at Emuren Junction on the nearby Itokin Road.According to local sources, the attackers possibly hired help for property speculators ambushed the police patrol team, opened fire, murdered one person there and then fled with his rifle.
