Workers of Metro Mass Transport Limited, have started a sit down strike to drum home the need for their management to pay their May and June Salaries. This comes after workers of the Transport Organizations
were paid half of their salaries in the Month of April. Giving reasons for their sit down strike, the leadership of the Workers Union in the organization said “It is instructive to note that the directives from the Sector
Ministry which are intended to regulate the operations of all commercial transport service providers in the country have affected MMTL so much in the area of revenue generation, and this has gone a long way to
affect the salaries of staff and their welfare”. The “No Pay, No Work” sit down strike which is taking place across the country is intended to be peaceful and nonviolent.“ All members are therefore enjoined to
ensure that they appreciate the directives given to them by the leadership of the unions for a peaceful and harmonious action.” Meanwhile, the Management of the MMTL have said that the directive from government through the Transport Minister has affected revenue
generation at the organization hence the changes with payment of Salaries. “It is instructive to note that the directives from the Sector Ministry which are intended to regulate the operations of all commercial transport service
providers in the country have affected MMTL so much in the area of revenue generation, and this has gone a long way to affect the salaries of staff and their welfare.” The action by workers of the Metro Mass Transport Limited has left passengers stranded at the various lorry stations across the country.
