Two Persons Jailed 5 Years With Hard Labour For Theft In Upper West

Wa Circuit Court has sentenced two young men to a combined five years in prison with hard labour for their involvement in separate theft cases in the Upper West Region. The first convict, Zakariah Karim, 28, was handed a three year sentence after being found guilty of stealing a tricycle with registration number M-24-UW 8757. The vehicle was recovered at Kojokpere on July 9, 2025, following a community tip-off. Police arrested two suspects during the operation, although one accomplice is still on the run.
In a separate incident, 25 year old Sharif Kanton was arrested in the Bugubelle community on July 11, 2025. He was charged with stealing from two different rooms and unlawful entry. The court sentenced him to two years of imprisonment with hard labour. Both cases were heard by His Lordship Jonathan Avoogo at the Wa Circuit Court. The successful convictions come as a result of close collaboration between the police and local residents.
In a statement signed by Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Peter Kamasa, the police commended the vigilance of the communities involved. He encouraged continued public cooperation to help maintain peace and order. The Upper West Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to strengthening community partnerships in the fight against crime.
