NPP Parliamentary Primaries to come off before June ends – John Boadu
General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has indicated that the Parliamentary Primaries of the party which were suspended on April 25 due to the outbreak of COVID 19 would finally come
off before the month of June ends. The suspended primaries were originally scheduled for April 25, 2020, to elect parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament
ahead of the 2020 General Elections. This comes after President Akufo Addo relaxed the restrictions on public gatherings last night, allowing a maximum of 100 persons to gather for church services, mosque prayers,
private funerals, conferences and political activities, excluding rallies. Commenting on the development in an interview on Monday morning, John Boadu said his party was pleased with the President’s new directive and would earnestly convene a National Executive
Committee (NEC) meeting to decide a date to fix the primaries. He said party would not want to lose track of the Electoral Commissions (EC) planned new voters registration exercise which has been scheduled for the end of June and so by every means possible, the NPP
would have to be done with its parliamentary primaries before the EC starts the registration exercise. John Boadu also noted the extra financial cost that would be brought to bear on the party since they would have to private hand sanitizers and other COVID-19 health needs at the voting centres.
